# Youth: make your skills visible

Maahir — A Server4Sale Initiative
Proposed programme discussion brief | 7 October 2026

## Audience
Students, fresh graduates, first-time job seekers and young adults preparing for internships.

## Need
A course title alone does not tell an employer what a learner can do. People with little work experience need an honest way to demonstrate preparation without inventing employment history.

## Proposed goal
Create a role-relevant work sample, explain personal contribution and prepare a realistic next application or mentor conversation.

## How learning could work
1. **Choose a role and inspect its tasks:** Read a genuine role description and identify a manageable task. Separate essential requirements from things to learn later. Career reflection helps explore options; it does not determine a person’s future.
2. **Build a small sample:** Use AI foundations to produce a checked report, content sample, prototype or other relevant output. Keep fictional data clearly labeled and record what AI assisted with.
3. **Practice explaining the work:** Use mock interviews, English practice or role-play. Rehearse “What did you do yourself?”, a follow-up question and a moment when you do not know the answer.
4. **Prepare an honest next step:** Improve the CV description, link the sample and identify one suitable application or reviewer. Never invent employers, clients, credentials or results.

## Illustrative practice situation
An interviewer asks a graduate with no formal employment history to explain a project and a mistake they corrected.

Example response (authored, not a learner transcript): “This was a practice project, not paid client work. I defined the task, used AI for a first draft and found a duplicate entry during checking. I corrected it and documented the limitation.”

Review: Can the learner explain the actual task, personal contribution and checks without exaggeration? Change the follow-up question and try again.

## Possible outputs
- A checked portfolio sample
- A truthful CV project entry
- An interview response and revision notes

## Support to discuss
Role-relevant challenge briefs, volunteer reviewers, outreach, an agreed coaching schedule and appropriate employer conversations. Placements require separate decisions by employers.

## Proposed measurement
Use comparable baseline and end tasks with a clear rubric: relevance, accuracy, explanation and reflection. Track applications, interviews and verified employment as different outcomes, not interchangeable success counts.

## SDG alignment — not endorsement
- Goal 4, target 4.4: Skills relevant to employment — https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal4
- Goal 8, target 8.5: Preparation for productive work; employment measured separately — https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal8

## Boundaries
Learning and interview practice do not guarantee selection, employment, accreditation or immigration eligibility. Confirm age requirements and safeguarding arrangements for any younger participants.

Confirm audience, schedule, responsibilities, support availability, costs, safeguards and evidence before delivery. No agreement or funding commitment is implied.
